Academic
The school curriculum is based on the New Zealand Curriculum and as well as covering the learning areas detailed in the document also includes te reo Maori and religious education. The academic programme seeks to support and nurture those requiring extra support whilst challenging all children to reach or surpass their potential.
The board of trustees has a policy of maximum class sizes to ensure that individual attention and ability grouping is possible. The maximum class sizes are:
| Year 0 | 18 |
| Year 1 | 20 |
| Years 2&3 | 23 |
| Years 4-8 | 25 |
Teachers report to parents regularly on the progress of their children. An attainment card which identifies whether the pupil is achieving at, above, below or well below in all learning areas, the key competencies, the vision attributes, and other social/cooperative aspects.
Two written reports are distributed – one at the end of Term Two and one at the end of the year – and these also document pupil achievement against the national standards in numeracy and literacy as well as the other learning areas and the key competencies. Parent teacher interviews are held in Term One and Term Three.
